Founded by the Reina family in 1947 but the family’s origins in the Saronno area date back to 1525. Today it is an Italian multinational with a strong strategic business diversification, leader in the world of spirits, and present in over 160 countries worldwide.
ILLVA SARONNO (Industria, Lombarda, Liquori, Vini e Affini) is above all known for Disaronno, the world’s favorite Italian liqueur.

In 1525, renowned artist Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, was commissioned frescoes in the Sanctuary of Saronno dedicated to the “Madonna dei Miracoli". As a model for the Madonna, he chose a beautiful local innkeeper. She wanted to thank him and gifted him with a precious jug filled with an amber-coloured, fragrant, delicate liqueur…
Thus, from a simple act of kindness and a unique combination of secret ingredients, the legend of DISARONNO was born.
In the 1600s, many families produced their own liqueurs, digestives, and various medicinal concoctions. Among these families was the Reina family, whose Giovanni Reina rediscovered the ancient recipe for the amber liqueur.
The recipe was then secretly passed down from generation to generation until, at the beginning of the last century, Domenico Reina opened a workshop store in the center of Saronno, the "Domenico Reina Coloniali".
The shop soon became a crossroads where people would stop by, taste, and purchase.
In 1947, I.L.L.V.A.: Industria, Lombarda, Liquori, Vini & Affini, was founded, riding the wave of this artisanal activity.
The 1960s were marked by a boom in exports and international success; first in the European market and then in the United States, which showed a particular appreciation for the Italian liqueur.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the company underwent a significant transformation. While retaining its usual flavor, Disaronno was marketed and promoted in as many countries as possible, thanks to a bold and ingenious operation to connect with retailers worldwide. The product was well received, even beyond expectations, and ILLVA SARONNO began to consolidate its success and international presence.
In the late 1980s, a series of acquisitions and strategic operations began expanding Illva Saronno Holding's business areas to include the world of wine and semi-finished products for ice cream, and its international
footprint to rapidly developing countries such as China and India. In the Spirits sector, strategic operations strengthened the product portfolio with the acquisition of Tia Maria and entry into the Irish Whiskey market, as well as improved commercial effectiveness with the opening of distribution branches in key territories.
In 2021, the merger by incorporation of Montebianco S.p.A. and RG S.r.l. into Prodotti Stella S.p.A., later renamed Disaronno Ingredients S.p.A., was completed for the management of semi-finished products for ice cream (with brands such as Anselmi, Prodotti Stella, and Montebianco) and bakery products. Additionally, the German company Disaronno Ingredients GmbH was established.
The ILLVA SARONNO production system fulfills the requirements underpinning the new Industry 4.0 concept, very much about integrating new production technologies to improve working conditions and increase productivity.
